Requirements for the Judo Rank Examination

The Judo rank examination allows judokas to validate their technical and competitive skills according to the established criteria of CGJudo. Depending on their preference and background, candidates can choose between two evaluation formats: Competition Format or Technical Format. Each format has specific requirements that must be met to obtain the rank. Below are the details for each format.

Competition Format

To obtain a rank via the competition format, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

  1. Accumulate 100 competition points: Each Ippon (or two Waza-ari) earns 10 points. It is essential to record each victory on an official sheet provided by the club or coach. This sheet must be signed or stamped by the competition organizer. All competitions held in Luxembourg or abroad are considered valid. The list of matches must be submitted to CGJudo along with the application.

  2. Demonstrate the first three groups of Nage no Kata as Tori.

  3. Unit of Value I: Perform five Gokyo techniques drawn at random by the jury.

  4. Unit of Value II: Present two sequences of techniques (standing, standing-ground, or ground-ground), either chosen freely or from a predefined list (Annex I). This list must be submitted to CGJudo at least two weeks before the examination.

  5. Unit of Value III: Present two counter techniques (standing, standing-ground, or ground-ground), either chosen freely or from the provided list (Annex I). This list must be submitted to CGJudo at least two weeks before the examination.

  6. Unit of Value IV: Perform five Katame Waza (ground) techniques drawn at random by the jury.

  7. Unit of Value V: Ne Waza practice: Answer two questions drawn at random by the jury regarding ground entries, Uchi komi ground, Yaku soku geiko, randoris, and immobilization escapes.

 

 

Technical Format

To obtain a rank via the technical format, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrate the entire Nage no Kata (all five groups).

  2. Unit of Value I: Perform ten Gokyo techniques drawn at random by the jury.

  3. Unit of Value II: Present five sequences of techniques (standing, standing-ground, or ground-ground), either chosen freely or from a predefined list (Annex I). This list must be submitted to CGJudo at least two weeks before the examination.

  4. Unit of Value III: Present five counter techniques (standing, standing-ground, or ground-ground), either chosen freely or from the provided list (Annex I). This list must be submitted to CGJudo at least two weeks before the examination.

  5. Unit of Value IV: Perform ten Katame Waza (ground) techniques drawn at random by the jury.

  6. Unit of Value V: Ne Waza practice: Answer three questions drawn at random by the jury regarding ground entries, Uchi komi ground, Yaku soku geiko, randoris, and immobilization escapes.

  7. Unit of Value VI: Nage Waza practice: Answer three questions drawn at random by the jury regarding Uchi komi, Randori, Yaku soku Geiko, and Ukemis.
