Luxembourg’s young judoka Leni Welter (WRL #27, JC Stroossen, Sportlycée) delivered an impressive performance at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) 2025, who take place from the 20 to 26 july 2025 in Skopje, North Macedonia. With determination and high-level skills, she secured a promising 5th place in her category.
Leni started her competition in spectacular fashion, eliminating the world no. 1, France’s Lucie Rullier 🇫🇷, in a thrilling opening match. She then kept the momentum going with a well-controlled victory over Hanna Boelcskei 🇩🇪 (WRL #25), earning her a spot in the semi-finals.
In the semis, she faced Valerie Tombou 🇧🇪 (WRL #17) in a close and intense bout. Despite a strong showing, Leni narrowly missed out on a spot in the final. In the bronze medal contest, she once again gave it her all, but was defeated by Isabel Bob 🇷🇴 (WRL #21).
With two wins and two losses, Leni finishes the tournament in 5th place, a result that underlines her potential and confirms that she can compete at the highest European level in her age group.
A model athlete, says coach Arnaud Grisier
National coach Arnaud Grisier praised both the performance and the attitude of his young judoka:
“Huge pride today for Leni Welter! 5th place at the EYOF in Skopje, after an intense journey where she beat the world champion and overcame the German opponent with real tactical mastery.
Beyond the results, I want to highlight Leni’s human qualities: she is rigorous, disciplined, mature, determined, autonomous, and always shows exemplary behaviour. An athlete who truly embodies both values and performance.”
